Countdown to 2030: Strengthening Global, Regional and Country Analytic Capacity

Improving maternal and child health is one of the important public health goals, which ensures the wellbeing of the next generations. Despite many global attempts and initiatives, maternal and child health objectives still need to be achieved. Tajikistan is not an exception. Small in size, this landlocked country has the fastest growing population in the Central Asian region. Mortality rates among infants, children, and mothers remain high in Tajikistan.  

Therefore, there is a clear need to accelerate progress towards achieving improved reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health and nutrition (RMNCAH+N) in Tajikistan. To achieve this goal, the Hospital for Sick Children’s (SickKids) Centre for Global Child Health, leads an in-depth Countdown (CD) to 2030 country case study in partnership with the University of Central Asia’s Institute of Public Policy and Administration, the Aga Khan University and the Aga Khan Foundation, Tajikistan. 

The project team is undertaking a rigorous analysis of existing data from all relevant data sources to obtain a picture of the progress and performance of the RMNCAH+N indicators and targets. This in-depth Tajikistan country case study, along with the broader regional study, aims to generate good quality and up-to-date evidence on country and province/district-level progress towards achieving universal coverage for RMNCAH+N. It also seeks to subsequently inform policy and programmes aiming to improve the health and nutrition of mothers and children and contribute to achieving 2030 SDGs.
