Sophie is an M.A. student in International Development at the University of Vienna, and is visiting the UCA for a period of one month to pursue field research for her master thesis on food security/ sovereignty and social agrarian movements. She received her Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Human Geography from Goethe University Frankfurt.
In her current studies she works at the intersection of critical agrarian studies and political ecology. She is fascinated by the post-soviet space, especially Central Asia. For her master thesis, Sophie is conducting interviews with (inter-)national NGOs and institutions working on agrarian issues, as well as agrarian consultants and academics reasearching food security issues, in order to find out about different strategies of farmer's organization on a national and international level as well as their struggle for food sovereignty.
