Randall K. Filer received his PhD from Princeton University. After a brief period at Brandeis University, he taught Economics at Hunter College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York until he retired in 2023. He is currently President of the Economic Fundamentals Initiative (EFI) and NGO committed to increasing economic literacy among the citizens of post-communist countries.  He has frequently been a Visiting Professor of Economics at CERGE-EI in Prague and the International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University (ISET). He also served for over 20 years as President of the CERGE-EI Foundation. He has served as the Central European Coordinator of the Global Development Network. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the ACE program of the European Union, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Volkswagen Foundation and the National Endowment of Arts, among others. Professor Filer is a Research Associate at CESifo (Munich), and IZA (Bonn). He has thrice won Fulbright Fellowships for work in The Czech Republic, Georgia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. His research has appeared in the American Economic Review, The Journal of Political Economy as well as many other journals.
