UCA and FAO Conduct Study on Enterprises' Participation in Agrifood Trade in Kyrgyzstan and Armenia

Institute of Public Policy and Administration
9 June 2026

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with the University of Central Asia (UCA), is conducting a study on women's and men's participation in international agrifood trade in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Armenia. The study is led by UCA's Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA) and aims to generate gender-disaggregated evidence on agrifood enterprises engaged in international trade. The findings will help inform future policies, programmes and capacity-building initiatives that support more inclusive agrifood trade and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) development in Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.

The research focuses on agrifood enterprises that export or import products during the last 12 months. It gives particular attention to SMEs and examines their trade activities, barriers, access to services, use of digital tools and support needs.

UCA and FAO emphasise that the survey is conducted solely for research and analytical purposes. All information provided by respondents will remain strictly confidential. All information collected will be used exclusively in an aggregated format for statistical analysis. Individual responses are strictly confidential and are not subject to disclosure to third parties or regulatory bodies.

The study will help identify key barriers and opportunities for agrifood enterprises involved in international trade, including customs procedures, certificates and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) compliance, logistics, access to finance, digital tools, business networks and gender-specific constraints. The results will support evidence-based recommendations for strengthening market access, business growth and inclusive trade in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Armenia.
