Long-term Climate Change Adaptation Capacity Development Program in Tajikistan

The project - Enabling an Effective National Adaptation Plan Process for Tajikistan - includes establishing a 4-month capacity-building program for climate adaptation planning and management. This program, designed by the UCA’s Mountain Society Research Institute (MSRI) in consultation with the AoH CoEP, will provide training and a post-graduate course to governmental stakeholders working in the relevant agencies from March 2024 to May 2025. This initiative aims to foster a community of practice and institutionalize climate adaptation knowledge within UCA.

The project, implemented by UNDP Tajikistan in collaboration with the Agency for Hydrometeorology Committee of Environmental Protection (AoH CoEP), aims to strengthen governance, coordination, and institutional arrangements for climate adaptation. It focuses on developing sector-specific adaptation plans and enhancing implementation capacities. The project aligns with Tajikistan’s national development policy, facilitating the integration of climate adaptation into development plans.

Tajikistan is highly vulnerable to climate change and the Government of Tajikistan is committed to tackle climate challenges, as outlined in its National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy (NCCAS) and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). In support to this initiative, UNDP launched a project, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), to support Tajikistan in its National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process.
