English-Russian-Kyrgyz Glossary of Terms in Urban Resilience for Kyrgyzstan

The English-Russian-Kyrgyz Glossary of Terms in Urban Resilience is aimed at standardising the existing terminologies in the urban resilience that frequently used global-wide and transforming them into the local languages and the reality of Kyrgyzstan.

The glossary has been compiled from global literatures as well as programs initiated by the development agencies, including UCA’s Certificate Program in Urban Resilience; and approved by the National Commission for the State Language and Policy under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.

In Kyrgyzstan, initiatives around the urban resilience had started in compliance to the commitment of the Kyrgyz Government to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, which includes Goal #11 which addresses urban development and resilience to natural disasters and protect those in vulnerable situations while also minimizing economic loss.

To ensure the Kyrgyz language accuracy in the field of urban resilience and in compliance to the Сonstitutional Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On the state language of the Kyrgyz Republic” adhered on July 17, 2023 No. 140, developing a glossary enables public and local government bodies to implement the public policy and create the conditions for community access to accurate terms and definitions in urban resilience.
The Urban Resilience Glossary has a great potential to be acknowledged and broadly used among the government entities dealing with local governance and regional development issues in Kyrgyzstan.
