Advancing Computer Science Education in Kyrgyzstan
A recent meeting with Ms Lira Samykbaeva, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan, focused on integrating of professional certification-based courses into the existing computer science curriculum. Dr Ayman Aljarbouh, Chair of the Department of Computer Science, and Mr Myrza Karimov, Head of Co-operative Education, representing UCA’s School of Arts and Sciences, emphasised the potential of this initiative to equip students with industry-relevant skills and cutting-edge knowledge in technology.
Dr Aljarbouh highlighted the significance of certifications as tangible evidence of students’ skills and knowledge, essential for validating candidates' capabilities in the job market. He stressed that such certifications not only enhance students' knowledge but also make them highly competitive globally.
Given UCA’s successful experience in the integration of certification-based courses into its computer science programme, it will closely collaborate with the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan on this initiative in the near future.
Since 2022, UCA’s computer science programme has included a certification-based Cisco CCNA CyberOps Associate course in cybersecurity. This course aims to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to effectively identify and address cybersecurity threats. Notably, three senior computer science students from UCA have received full scholarships and admission to the prestigious CyberMACS Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree Programme in Applied Cybersecurity. This programme, known for its rigorous selection process, aims to identify the most talented and promising students worldwide in the field of cybersecurity.
